Visual Identity Design, Logo Design System

The rebranding was inspired by Tarkovsky's exile and longing to return to his homeland, with the intent to honor his significant influence on cinema. The design decisions were rooted in both the geographic and cinematic history of Berlin and Tarkovsky’s work:

Color Palette: Pulled directly from the natural and urban landscape of Berlin and the film Stalker, creating a visual connection to both the festival's location and Tarkovsky's iconic work.

Monogram and Logo: The new monogram, "iffb," features overlapping "f"s to symbolize the motion of a spinning 35mm film reel, emphasizing the festival’s connection to traditional cinema.

Graphic Elements: The use of dashes throughout the design references the sprockets of traditional film reels, reinforcing the festival’s roots in film history.

Publication

A carefully crafted publication was designed as a giveaway, detailing Tarkovsky's history, filmography, and exile. This includes screenplay-inspired layouts that echo scenes from Stalker and Solaris, using a 16x9 aspect ratio to mimic cinematic framing.
